"A Youth Council has been established to facilitate the coordination of youth
programs and activities at the local level, that are required at the federal
level by the Workforce Investment Act, (WIA) passed in 1998. The Youth
Council for Workforce Development Area 6 in Wisconsin is a part of the North
Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board.

The primary functions of the Youth Council are to:

Improve coordination among programs and youth-serving organizations

Conduct strategic planning for youth programs

Identify eligible providers for youth services

Conduct oversight of youth programs
The overriding purpose of a Youth Council, from a national perspective, is to:

Provide expertise in youth policy

Assist the area Workforce Development Board in developing and recommending
local youth employment and training policy and practice

Broadening the youth employment and training focus in the community to
incorporate a youth development perspective

Establishing linkages with other organizations serving youth in the local
area
-
Taking into account a range of issues that can have an impact on the success of
youth in local labor market"
